Stages of artistic mastery

I've been going through an art slump lately. I was going through all my past work when rummaging around I stumbled upon this "stages of artistic mastery" chart I'd saved ages ago and it made me feel a lot better about my state of mind.

I didn't make it and I don't remember where I found it, and you might have seen it before. Still, it's worth looking at often to put things into perspective.

Quick Character Update

I thought I'd add some older characters of mine that I'd not posted earlier.

Speedpaint 1

Here's a quicky trying out a looser style.

2011, rock and roll!

It was nice to put all those previous posts up as a retrospective, but it's time to get cracking with this year's work. I've only been lifedrawing once this month and here are the results.

The poses were short (5-20mins) so I went with charcoal to get some more expressive markmaking. I'm quite unfamiliar with the medium, but I really like the way it handles. I'll definitely be experimenting more with it!

I also have a couple of digi paints, the last two being WIPs from last year that I still havent gotten round to finishing!

2010 Sketchbook 02 Life drawing

Life drawing from July to December, most poses ranging from 5 to 35mins, with a couple of hour long poses here and there.

Heh, and a bit of messing around inspired by one of the models

2010 Sketchbook 02

Here are some imagination sketches from the sketchbook I started in July and eventually finished in December.

Plus some studies from characterdesigns.com, the V&A, Natural History museum and after Waterhouse.

2010 Figure and portrait painting

The first painting is done in oils during my 2 weeks at the Florence Academy. The rest are in acrylic, done during the Hesketh Hubbard sessions at the Mall galleries. Poses range from 30mins to two hours.
